Opportunity International was interested in developing an agricultural model for sharing economic benefits and applying this model to a plant operated by Opportunity International in Nicaragua. The CODESPA Foundation was selected to complete this work, and Yellow Wood Associates was invited to contribute research and analysis to this project, drawing on previous work that Yellow Wood had completed for Opportunity International. The work involved travel to Nicaragua to assess the existing processing plant; research on opportunities for sharing economic benefits and the technical, legal, and financial feasibility of these options; developing an agricultural model for sharing economic benefits and applying it to the plant. To facilitate adoption of the model, Yellow Wood worked with CODESPA on the development of a participatory strategy including a strategic plan, training plan, pilot plan, and a monitoring and follow-up system.
