Sustainable Value Chain Finance Workshop Report

This Sustainable Value Chain Finance Workshop Report from the Rainforest Alliance is based on a workshop with a diverse set of stakeholders who came together to discuss the  value chain finance framework and models and the necessary enabling conditions for sustainable value chain finance to take root. It provides a useful assessment of current conditions and recommendations for improvements that involve:

1. long-term investment, rather than one-off or short-term finance alone;
2. risk mitigation;
3. improved information systems;
4. certification;
5. capacity building; and
6. increased local engagement.

Although the perspective is international and the focus is on agriculture, many of the same principles apply in the United States and to value chains in a variety of sectors.
